Did you know that…

Southeastern is now the third largest university in Louisiana with more than 14,500 students enrolled. The university offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs, including a doctorate in educational leadership.

For the third time in six years, the Southeastern School of Nursing has been named the nursing program of the year by the Louisiana Nurses Foundation. Programs in this competition are judged on meeting accreditation standards, innovations in teaching and research, state licensure passage rates of students, and comments from area employers and alumni.

High school graduates who have ACT scores of 24 or above automatically qualify for special scholarship packages to attend Southeastern, some of which include housing allowances. It’s part of the university’s plan to attract the best and brightest of area high school graduates.

With support from the Environmental Protection Agency and other sources, Southeastern scientists and students continue to perform valuable research in restoring and maintaining Louisiana’s valuable wetlands. Much of this research takes place at the university’s Turtle Cove Environmental Research Station in Pass Mancahc.

The Southeastern Channel, the university’s educational access channel operated in cooperation with Charter  Communications, reaches into more than 94,000 homes in Washington, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Livingston parishes. The Enny - award - winning station offers a wide variety of educational, cultural and sports programming.

The Southeast Louisiana Business Center, a university - sponsored effort designed to spur economic development in the region, continues to be a leader in the economic development and growth of the I - 12 corridor. The center works with area chambers of commerce and other economic development agencies to recruit new business to the area and assist existing businesses in expansion. The center also includes a “business incubator” with space for start - up businesses and offers business counseling and assistance through its Small Business Development Center.

Southeastern has an estimated $500 million economic impact on a 25 - mile radius from the campus.
