GENERAL INFORMATION
Transmitting Messages
Employees of the Telephone Company are forbidden to accept oral or
written messages to be transmitted by an employee over the lines of
the Telephone Company.
Advertising Telephone Numbers
The advantages of showing telephone numbers on stationery, signs,
cards, etc., are recognized, though the growth and changes in the
coverage area and the corresponding growth and arrangement of
telephone facilities may require the changing of telephone numbers.
For this reason, stationery, signs, cards, etc., showing telephone
numbers should not be printed in large quantities.
Builders' Service
When building or remodeling, you may arrange with your architect or
builder to provide telephone outlets while construction is in progress.
The Telephone Company will gladly advise you or your builder. Just
call the Telephone Company.
Business and Residence Rates
Service subject to the business rate may be determined by the
location of the telephone instrument or the primary use made of the
service. The business rate will apply when the telephone is located
on premises primarily and essentially used for business purposes,
such as offices, stores, shops, factories, and garages. The business
rate may also apply to telephones located in domestic establishments
when the service is used substantially for, or advertised for, business
purposes. Telephones located in residences and used primarily for
domestic purposes are entitled to the rate for residence service. If,
however, such service is used substantially for, or advertised for,
business purposes, the business rate will be applied.

TELEPHONE DIRECTORIES
The use, in connection with Telephone Directories, of any auxiliary

by, or with the consent of, the Telephone Company is prohibited.
No liability shall attach to or be assumed by the Company for any
errors or omissions in the compiling, printing or distribution of its
directories. In order that the directory record may contain correct
listings at all times, notifications of changes or errors should be given
at once to the Business Office of the Company.
HANDLING UNWANTED PHONE CALLS
If you do not want to talk to a person selling a product or service by
telephone, just say "no thank you," and hang up.
If you're bothered by harassing or anonymous phone calls, try these
techniques to discourage them:
Always hang up immediately at the first obscene word or if the
person on the other end of the line doesn't respond after you've
said "hello" twice.
Don't talk to the caller. This is what he or she wants you to do.
Don't give out any information or let the caller know if you're
alone. Teach your children to say "Mom or Dad can't come to
the phone. May I take a message?"
If the problem occurs continuously over an extended period, you
should report it to your local law enforcement agency. Keep a record
of the days and times of the calls, and note the caller's sex, voice,
accent and comments. This information could assist the police.
It is a crime to make harassing, obscene or anonymous phone calls
under both federal and state laws. |
