DRIVER'S LICENSES / REGISTRATION
In both Louisiana and Mississippi you must be at least
15 years old to apply for a learner's permit and 17 years
old for a regular driver's license.

You must provide the following:
Social Security Card or a printout from Social Security
Administration
Proof of insurance (Louisiana only)
Certified copy of birth certificate
Proof of domicile
Proof of enrollment in school if under 18 years of age

First-time drivers are required to pass a written test,
driving test, and vision exam. New residents with valid
out of state licenses require only a vision exam.

New residents to Louisiana must obtain a LA driver's
license, register their vehicle and obtain a LA license
plate within 30 days of establishing residency. In
addition to the above, you will need your out-of-state
title and registration certificate.

New residents to Mississippi must obtain a MS driver's
license within 60 days and a MS license plate within 30
days. Contact the tax collector's office within the county
that you reside for license plate information.

BRAKE TAGS / INSPECTION STICKERS
Both Louisiana and Mississippi residents are required to
pass annual motor vehicle safety inspections. The cost is
$10.00, good for one year. Most service garages and full-
service gas stations can perform an inspection. Look for
an official orange "Motor Vehicle Inspection Station" sign.

VOTER REGISTRATION
To register to vote you must be:
A citizen of the United States
A resident of the state and county / parish
(and city, if applicable) in which you want to vote
At least 17 years old, and 18 years old prior to the next
election
Not currently under an order of imprisonment for conviction
of a felony
Not currently under a judgment of interdiction for mental
incompetence

You may apply at any of the following State offices: Registrar
of Voters, Motor Vehicle, Social Services, WIC, Food Stamp,
Medicaid, Offices serving persons with disabilities, Armed
Forces Recruitment centers or by mail. You must be
registered at least 30 days prior to be eligible to vote in
the next election.
